What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be recognised on a later visit. Local storage does a similar job in a different way: the browser holds a named value for the site until you clear it. Both are covered by the same rules in Ireland.

What this site sets

Nothing of its own. There is no analytics cookie here, no advertising cookie, no social media cookie and no tracking pixel. The page is a set of static files: HTML, one stylesheet, one small script, two font files and a handful of images.

The one entry in local storage

• mazereview_pref — written only after you press a button on the storage notice. It records that choice so the notice does not reappear on every page. It contains nothing else, it stays in your browser, and no part of this site sends it anywhere.

Because nothing on this page is switched on or off by that choice, the notice is there to inform you rather than to gate anything. If you never press a button, nothing is stored at all.

Cloudflare

This site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as a content delivery network in front of our hosting. Depending on how the account is configured, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie — typically named __cf_bm — which lasts around half an hour and exists to tell human visitors apart from automated traffic. Cloudflare may also inject its own performance script, which measures how quickly the page loads. That script does not set a cookie and does not identify you personally.

The rules that apply

Storage of this kind is governed in Ireland by S.I. No. 336/2011 — the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 — read together with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Consent is not required for storage that is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, which is the only category present here.

How to clear or block it

Every modern browser lets you clear cookies and site data for a single site, and lets you block them in advance. In Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari the setting sits under privacy or site settings; clearing site data for this address removes the preference entry described above and the notice will simply appear again. Nothing on this page stops working if you block storage entirely.
